Buying is often the right answer. The failure mode is not the decision to buy. It is a platform selected on demonstration, configured on defaults, and rolled out without anyone owning the integration.
Selection
Selection begins with documented requirements, weighted by what the business genuinely cannot compromise on. Vendors are evaluated against that list, including the parts that never appear in a sales demo: data export, integration surface, security posture, support model, and total cost across the licence term.
Implementation
Configuration, integration with surrounding systems, data migration, and environment setup are handled as an engineering project with test criteria, not as a switch-on. Compliance and security requirements are verified before production, not discovered after it.
Adoption
A platform nobody uses is an expense, not an asset. Rollout includes administrator enablement, documentation aimed at the people who will actually operate the system, and a defined support path once the implementation team steps back.
